Tibet Guge 06 Tsaparang White Temple 08 04 Vairocana 1  [12 of 45]

There are six statues of a three-headed Vairocana, three on the left, three on the right, which together form a meditation cycle of Vairocana. Originally they were each enclosed in a richly decorated stucco frame (torana), an arch, usually depicting foliage and animate designs above the divinity's head. Small holes in the wall secured them around the images. Notice especially the thin, elongated torsos, the elongated faces, distinctive stomach cleavage, slight abdominal bulge, and extremely slender waists are all characteristic of Kashmiri art. Photo of second Vairocana - Weyer/Aschoff: Tsaparang, Tibets Grosses Geheimnis.
